To facilitate drainage inside the pot, I suggest putting a 1-inch layer of small rocks or gravel in the very bottom of the pot, and then cutting a small round piece of plastic (perhaps out of the lid to a yogurt container or something comparable) to fit on top of the gravel, and keep potting soil from sinking into it. Then, fill your planter with soil and plant your favorite houseplant inside.
